Moonflex Pro Diamond File for Ski and Snowboard Edges 100mm 100 Grit

Season:Current

Brand:Moonflex Diamond Files

Code:THB010032P

Moonflex Diamond Files are simply the best diamond files on the market for ski and snowboard tuning technicians and racers alike. A premium diamond etched surface is combined with a forgiving flex base for outstanding results.

This is the 100mm pro length 100mm version in 100 grit colour coded in black. Ideal for your pocket to take on the mountain as well as using in your workshop.

We have been using these files in our workshop since 2006, and indeed 2 of the files are still in service after 14 years of tuning hundreds of skis and snowboards.

The surface is diamond etched onto a special carrier material, to offer a super sharp cutting profile which is ideal for polishing ski and snowboard edges to perfection.

Available in a range of grits, we recommend everyone carries one of these on the mountain, as a couple of passes after wetting the file with snow/water and your edges will be sharper again.

These files excel in racing environments too and are very popular with dry slope skiers, who will own most if not all grits (we do sell a set of these files) and work their way through each grit to give the most highly polished finish possible by hand, easily matching what can be done with an expensive ceramic polishing machine.

Specification

  • Length: 100mm
  • Width: 25mm
  • Grit: 100 Grit (Black Colour Coded Base)
  • Weight: 35g
  • Supplied as a single file

Scott's Tips

Our head technician and owner Scott loves these files, and always advises the following when undertaking our ski technician training workshops...

  1. One of my favourite tools in the workshop, I always carry a white 400 or yellow 600 on the mountain, as with just a couple of passes edges that have gone off a little since being tuned are sharp once again. It takes seconds to do.
  2. Always lubricate with these files to prolong their life. You should NOT use an oil based cutting fluid as it not only encourages rust but can also interfere with the ski base and layered construction of skis and snowboards if the fluid was to penetrate to the core. I dab the file in the snow on the mountain, or in the workshops here we just have a 99p garden sprayer with water in it.
  3. I DON'T like to use diamond files in edge tools. If you are using the 100 or possible 200 grit then it is OK in small doses to ensure the edge that has been set is retained, but if you over use a diamond file in an edge guide it WILL damage it permanently, so either use for a couple of passes, or if polishing, ditch the file guide and use a higher grit such as 600 or even 1500 which will polish without resetting the edge unless you spent hours doing it!
  4. You can buy a diamond file cleaner online from tool shops for £10-£15. Or you can go to your stationary drawer, take out a pencil eraser and use that, as it is exactly the same item! I use the Staedler Mars Plastic eraser (around £1.50) and its lasting me years in a busy workshop
