The Fritschi Xenic 10 ski touring binding combines light weight compact design with class leading safe release, resulting in a performance ski touring binding that can work well on both the ascent and descent across all terrains.
If you are looking for a lightweight pin binding with a far safer release system than traditional touring bindings, the Xenic may well be your perfect ski touring binding.
At a scant 280 grams per binding (excluding brakes) you can now assemble a super lightweight ski and yet still have safe vertical release from the toe and elasticity at the toe, so when you find yourself in an unsafe situation, the binding will safely release.
The brakes, which are available separately come in 85mm, 95mm and 105mm widths, or you can fit with an optional safety leash. To activate a brake in the touring position when installed, simply push the brake flat, and rotate the rear heel piece to lock.
The entry system at the toe is based on exstensive testing and development of both the Vipec and Tecton touring bindings, now well proven, with a reshaped bumper for easier alignment of your pin inserts as you press into the front of your ski binding. The entry plate itself is very broad making it compatible with all the latest ski touring boot sole designs.
The heel features the classic pin fitting to work with dedicated ski touring boots, but still offers a safe release when it is required. 2 separate springs increase durability and precision as opposed to the normal single spring, and a DIN release setting of 4-10 is available. There is 13mm of rotational movement before the binding safely releases.
The Safe Pure Ski Touring Binding Option
Safety is where the Xenic excels over other lightweight pin bindings. There is 10mm of lateral length compensation, so when going over bumpy ground, as the ski bends, your boot stays planted in the binding, and there is an early release lever releasing you if you go over the front of the bindings at around 65 degrees, where the classic pin bindings on the market need you to be at 90 degrees (i.e. face in the snow!) before they release. And finally there is 9mm of elasticity at the nose of the binding, backed up by the 13mm of rotational movement at the heel.
